Jeni’s Splendid ice cream introduced Everything Bagel ice cream and the internet went wild for the marriage of two major flavor icons. It’s hard to get your hands on a pint, so we’ve created our own version. A creamy, cream cheese ice cream is filled with everything bagel seasoned streusel to create a salty, sweet, and totally bagel flavor.
This ice cream is definitely an acquired taste, but it’s a lot of fun to make and is a wild treat you can eat any time of the day, even breakfast. The recipe sounds complicated but it’s actually only four ingredients for the streusel and three ingredients for the ice cream.
It’s a no-churn recipe, so it’s simple to mix together and you don’t need any special equipment. All you need is a freezer, a loaf pan, and some time to let it set up. You can find everything bagel seasoning at Trader Joe’s and Costco, or you can make your own.
You can eat this ice cream on its own, in a cone, or go crazy, topping it with smoked salmon and capers for a true everything bagel experience.
Ingredients
For the Everything Bagel Streusel:
-
1/2 cup (4 ounces) unsalted butter
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup everything bagel seasoning, plus more for topping
For the Cream Cheese Ice Cream:
-
2 cups heavy cream
-
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
-
9 ounces sweetened condensed milk
Steps to Make It
For the Everything Bagel Streusel
-
Gather your ingredients. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
-
Melt the butter in the microwave in a medium heatproof bowl until completely melted.
-
Add the flour and sugar to the bowl with the melted butter, and mix until large clumps form.
-
Stir in the everything bagel seasoning until it’s incorporated into the streusel.
-
Spread the streusel onto a baking sheet.
-
Bake for 20 minutes, stirring gently after 10 minutes, or until the streusel is lightly golden brown and no longer soft. Remove from the oven and cool completely. Meanwhile, make the ice cream base.
For the Cream Cheese Ice Cream
-
Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Be careful to not overbeat, as the cream can become separated and form butter.
-
Beat in the softened cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk until incorporated. Again, be careful not to overbeat.
-
Fold the cooled streusel into the ice cream base.
-
Pour the ice cream base into a loaf pan (no need to spray or line with parchment). Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours, or ideally overnight.
-
Remove from the freezer and sprinkle with more everything bagel seasoning. Heat an ice cream scoop in warm water, then scoop and serve with more seasoning if you wish. Enjoy.
