You will love this easy version of a classic turtle pie. The signature chocolate, caramel, and pecan flavors are present, but the preparation is simplified with a few time-saving shortcuts. The pie is assembled using a prepared unbaked pie shell that can easily be found in the frozen dessert section of your grocery store. Another option would be to use a ready-made pie crust from the refrigerated section of the supermarket. These can be easily unrolled and pressed into your pie pan. Of course, you could also make a homemade pie crust if you prefer!
Another shortcut in this recipe is the use of prepared caramel and chocolate ice cream toppings. Instead of taking the time to make your own, simply find your favorite sauces in the grocery store and drizzle them right on top of the baked and cooled pie.
For added flair and presentation points, whole pecans are placed along the edge of the pie. This turtle pie is an extra special treat when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It's a dessert that can be prepared in advance for an effortless, yet showstopping dessert for your next party.

Steps to Make It
-
Gather the ingredients. Preheat oven to 350 F.
-
In a small heavy saucepan, melt 1/2 cup unsalted butter and 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped together over low heat, stirring frequently. Cool for 20 minutes.
-
In a large mixing bowl, stir together 3 large eggs, beaten, 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
-
Stir in the cooled chocolate and 1 cup pecans, chopped.
-
Pour the filling into the unbaked pie shell.
-
Bake at 350 F for 50 to 55 minutes or until a skewer inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
-
Drizzle with your favorite chocolate sauce or ice cream topping and caramel sauce or ice cream topping. Garnish the edge of the pie with 1 cup whole pecans. Serve with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
Tip
- Unsweetened chocolate is very dark and bitter with a crumbly texture. It is the best choice for melting into other ingredients like butter and cream. It should be used in recipes alongside a sweetener like sugar.
