Breathe new life into leftover Halloween candy with this simple technique for making dressed-up chocolate fondue.

Grab a couple of handfuls of your favorite fun-size chocolate bars (we made individual fondues for Butterfinger, Milky Way, and Snickers), some bulk chocolate, a small slow-cooker or crockpot, and a little heavy cream. That's all you'll need to transform these fan favorites into a fancy dessert you can pair with anything you'd dip in traditional chocolate fondue. Cut up some fresh fruit and pound cake to spear on skewers or fondue forks, or go salty-sweet with thick, ridged potato chips that hold onto the melted chocolate and don't let go!

Watch the video below, then raid the candy stash and make this interactive treat for your next party.

Ingredients

For the Fondue:

  • 6 ounces milk chocolate chips, or dark chocolate chips

  • 6 to 8 small chocolate bars, fun size bars, roughly chopped

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup heavy cream, or half-and-half, room temperature

For Dipping

  • 1 cup strawberries, washed and trimmed

  • 1 banana, cut into 1-inch slices

  • Pound cake, cut into 1-inch pieces

  • 4 ounces ridged potato chips

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Turn the crockpot to its lowest setting, or just plug it in if there's only one setting, and allow it to preheat for 2 to 3 minutes.

  3. Add in the chocolate chips. Use a clean dishtowel or oven mitt to hold the crockpot in place while you stir the chips with a wooden or silicone spoon to help them start melting.

  4. When the chips begin to melt, add in half the heavy cream and continue to stir until chocolate is mostly melted.

  5. Add the remaining cream and stir until mixture is smooth and free of lumps.

  6. Add the chopped candy bars, and stir until just coated with chocolate. The more you stir, the more the candy bars will melt. If you let them melt too much, you may not be able to tell which candy bar you used.

  7. Serve immediately with fondue forks, regular forks, or skewers for dipping. Enjoy!

Pairing Ideas

  • Be creative with your pairings, and match the type of chocolate you're using (dark or milk) with what you're dipping into it. We paired Butterfinger with dark chocolate and bananas, Milky Way with milk chocolate and fresh strawberries, and Snickers with dark chocolate and salty potato chips. Feel free to mix and match — you can't lose!
  • If the fondue gets too hot, it may scorch around the edges. If this happens, turn off or unplug the crockpot for several minutes, allow the mixture to cool slightly (but not solidify), then turn it back on.
